Axis Style and Performance Attracts Another Free Riding Pro
Welcome, Keith Lyman | AXIS WAKE RESEARCH from JAOPRO on Vimeo.
Axis Wake Research (@AxisWake) is Keith Lyman's wake boat manufacturer of choice.Wakeboarder Keith Lyman is going big behind an A22 as the newest member of the Axis Wake Research Pro Factory Team. Known for his unique riding style, his dedication to the sport and clean living, Lyman joins, Randall “The Vandall” Harris representing the industry’s fastest growing wakeboard boat brand. The Axis Wake Team now fuses the highest-flying, strongest style riders of the East and West Coasts into a team of professional athletes who are all about the ride and perfecting their craft. Lyman is a free riding legend and, like Harris, the embodiment of Axis Wake Research. The company is stoked to have him on board.
Check out the gallery of Keith Lyman's Axis Wake photos on the Axis Wake Research Flickr channel.
This is what Lyman had to say about the logic behind that choice. “I believe in the company, everything from the way their boats are built to their moral stance within our industry.” Lyman went on to say, “I’m stoked to see that Adam McCall [Managing Director for Axis] is an actual wakeboarder! He gets it! He is extremely switched on and has an understanding for keeping things simple! A quality that a lot of individuals and companies are seeming to stray from these days.”
Lyman believes the most important thing in life is, “staying positive and happy.” This guy may go huge behind his A22, but he is extremely grounded. Lyman prides himself on clean living and looks up to other riders who do the same.
Lyman’s list of respected, stylish, freeride mentors includes the “Who’s Who” of wakeboarding, with Ben Greenwood and Shaun Murray ranking right up there, but when we asked Lyman who has been most influential, he didn’t even blink before he answered, “Randall Harris.”
A motivating factor in Lyman’s decision to ride for Axis, his admiration of, Team Axis Pro Rider, Harris goes beyond wakeboarding. When we asked Lyman why he looks up to Vandall he responded, “Because he came from corruption to the light, as well as being unappreciated and black-balled, back in the day, to becoming one of the most respected and appreciated riders when he came back after taking a break for 2 plus years. He is the baddest rider on planet earth. He is wakeboarding.”
When Lyman had the opportunity to get behind the price-point wake boat rooted in style and performance, he was amped! Lyman said this after sessioning behind an Axis A22 for the first time, “…all I can say is WOW! It was awesome! It definitely opened my eyes and I can't wait to get one of my own!” He continued, “The wake is all around world class! It’s the way a wake should be! It’s huge, really clean, a good width and a perfect shape; great for ridin’ big or for just poppy wake to wake riding.”
Adam McCall, Managing Director of Axis Wake Research, had this to say about the newest member of the Axis Team. “The synergy with Lyman and Axis is clear. He’s a simple guy who rides because he loves it, takes every trick into the flats, and has a style all his own. His riding’s only rivaled by his positive attitude and work ethic.” McCall concluded, “He is an exciting addition to our team!”

WSR Visits Pyramid Lake With A22
As the water trickles down the snowy mountains of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, dams are constructed to create aqueducts distributing water throughout California. Water is mostly plentiful in Northern California and the North generously supplies Southern California with over 50% of our water supply. Water is moved 444 miles, up 3000 ft to traverse up the Tehachapi Mountains through aqueducts, siphons, pumps and tunnels to reach it’s destination in beautiful Southern California.
Check out the sweet gallery of WSR photos from the Pyramid Lake Trip.
Southern California’s desert conditions can cause dilemmas when finding quality water for drinking and more importantly glassy water to ride on. There are only a few spots to ride in Southern California so the WSR has been exploring our zone to discover new spots to ride. During our road travels through the years we’ve driven past Pyramid Lake numerous times while going over the Grapevine, questioning it’s wakeboarding capabilities. We finally decided to round up the troops and test his mysterious reservoir’s ridding potential. Eddie Valdez, Justin Fisher and I decided to camp the night before near the lake. When we arrived we noticed the camp had an eerie feeling, like a creepy Friday the 13th movie, man- eating bugs included. Being one of the only two groups of campers in the entire site didn’t help. Our fears quickly vanished after one of the friendly park staffers provided us with bug repellent and saved our lives. The combination of bugs and Eddie’s random mix ass-blast’n left us a bit sleep deprived.
In the morning photographer Nick Meistrell met up with us at our camp and Eddie made a five star breakfast with eggs, sausage and bagels to prepare for our day in the wakeboarding office. When we arrived at the dock to meet up with the rest of the crew consisting of the WSR vets Randall Harris and Ricky G, we quickly noticed the lake was about as butter as it gets. Randall, Ricky, Eddie, and I rode and Justin showed off his PWC driving skills running chase for Nick. The conditions were perfect all day including crystal clear water that has more than 20ft visibility, ideal for fishing, one of many WSR’s hobbies. The depth of Pyramid Lake is 355 ft containing 30lb+ striped bass, Justin and Eddie ended the day with catching a few trout…

Axis Pro Rider Randall Harris Wins Rio Bravo Event
Rusty Manoff wrote this account of the Rio Bravo Pro event in Reynosa Mexico for AllianceWake.com.
13 of the top pro wakeboarders attended this annual event they call the Rio Bravo Pro. The list included Aaron Rathy, Rusty Malinoski, Danny Harf, Philip Soven, Shane Bonifay, JD Webb, Randall Harris, Adam Errington, Ben Greenwood, Bob Soven, Collin Harrington, Kyle Rattray and Shawn Watson. Everyone, including a few international wild cards competed for a top cash prize of $4000 and a chance to be named Rio Bravo Pro champ.
The weekend started with a few practice runs. Phil, Rusty, and Rathy put on a bit of a show on Saturday for some of the locals. All were impressed and wanted to see more, so once the sun went down a rail jam broke out. Each rider had a chance to show everyone what they had and JD Webb came out swinging with pretty much every tech trick in the book. A big surprise and crowd favorite was Phil Soven’s gap to tail tap over a Monster Energy Drink EZ-Up tent.
Sunday marked the official start to the main event. Riders went head to head and received two river passes, one down and one up, and for their third pass they had a chance to hit a kicker or a flat bar for extra points. It came down to four riders in the semi finals; Rusty Malinoski, Adam Errington, Phil Soven, and Randall “The Vandall” Harris.
All rode well, but Randall and Phil advanced to the final. Randall hit the water first with massive wrapped tricks and huge airs to put pressure on Phil. Phil ended up falling on his second trick of his first pass and the rest of his run wasn’t quite what the judges were looking for. So Randall Harris walked away with the W and 4K large, winning his first contest since 1995.

Quicksilver & Axis Wake Together on a Lake Near You
Keep up on the latest wake-related Quiksilver news with The Mountain and Wave Blog and check out Quiksilver A22 images on the Axis Wake flickr.com channel.
The Quiksilver/Axis Wake partnership came about the way many great joint ventures do - respected friends suggested the connection. Riding for both Quiksilver and Axis Wake Research, Vandall was informed of Quiksilver’s desire to obtain a performance-centric wakeboard boat that provides a good value. Corey Marotta of Alliance MultiMedia was also aware of Quiksilver’s quest for big wakes and style for a reasonable price. Both suggested the Axis A22 and the rest is history.
“We’re stoked to see these two brands come together and honored to be the conduit. The A22 is one of the best performing values in the wake boat market and with Quiksilver’s reach and brand history, this partnership offers both companies an amazing way to spread each of their messages. And at the center, is Vandall,” explained Marotta.
Adam McCall (@TajMcCall), Managing Director for Axis Wake Research, was excited to associate his new unique wake boat brand with a powerhouse like Quiksilver, but even more intrigued by the similarities in the two companies’ objectives. "Quiksilver and Axis Wake Research share an energy for improving the experiences of the sports we love.” McCall continued, “It's because of this mutual focus, that we look forward to collaborating on many projects within the board sports industry."
As one of the World’s largest boardsport companies, Quiksilver is dedicated to providing the gear that helps riders discover individuality and progress in water sports. Axis Wake Research shares this same commitment while at the same time bringing pride to the entry-level wakeboard boat buyer with big wakes, styling and a low price.
Blake Choate, Quiksilver Wake Team Manager, had this to say about the new Quicksilver/Axis partnership, “I’m super hyped on the partnership between Quiksilver and Axis. Quiksilver being one of the biggest boardsport companies, we were looking to partner up with a boat company with the best value and best wake. Axis was that company. We also share one of the top athletes in wakeboarding, Vandall. This made the marriage of the two companies seamless”.
It is this set of values that Quiksilver plans to demonstrate with Axis A22 and The Vandall on tour next summer. Stay tuned to Quiksilver’s Mountain and Wave Blog for stop dates and details. This is what brought him to Axis. And this is why he believes the A22, Axis Wake Research, and he are a perfect fit.
